Trying to Sell Your RV? Avoid These 7 Photography Mistakes

We help RVers sell their beautifully renovated RVs. Many of our sellers are DIYers who tackled their renovation and are selling their RVs all on their own. A few are professionals who flip RVs as a business.

Scrolling through the photos, it’s easy to see who is the amateur and who has been around the block a few times.

In this article, we’re sharing some of the biggest photography tips we’ve learned from the professionals to help your RV sell.

1. Clear off the countertops.

There’s nothing like someone else’s drying dishes to ruin a photo. No one wants to see this when shopping for an RV! Shoppers want to see a clean, beautiful space. This may sound obvious, but this is the biggest critique we see in RV photos.

Swipe those surfaces clean, pile everything on the floor if you must, and get it out of the shot.

2. The same goes for closets and drawers.

Even if they are impeccably well organized, like this one.

3. Take photos during the day.

One thing professionals always do well is let in the light. Open your curtains, take photos during the day, and turn on all the lights. The darker the space, the worse it looks.

4. Use photos, not screenshots.

Oi vey, this one kills me.

Always, always, always upload the real photo file, not a screenshot of a photo. The quality will be worse, and you’ll always get blurred or black bars on the side like above.

5. Use a mix of vertical and horizontal images.

Most people browse the internet on their phones, making vertical images more appealing. Since most people photograph their RVs with their phones, most images are vertical as well.

However, RVs are very small and narrow. Vertical images can make them feel smaller. Take a few horizontal images, as seen above, to give a better feel for the space, particularly in the living and kitchen areas. This will give buyers a better understanding of the floorplan and whether it will work for them.

(PS This is also a great example of letting in the light!)

6. Don’t include people.

As a general rule of thumb, never include people in your photos, especially children!

7. Upload your best photo first.

The first photo will be the thumbnail that people will preview before clicking on your RV listing. Make this the best photo you take and one that really shows off your renovation. Like this one:

Avoid These Photography Mistakes

Forgetting to clean your countertops, using screenshots, and taking photos in the dark are the biggest mistakes we see sellers make when trying to sell their RVs. Avoid them to attract more buyers. Good luck!
